Castelo, Algarve - Resort Guide

The area of Castelo (castle in Portuguese) owes its name to the impressive castle shaped cliff formations found on its beautiful sandy beach. Castelo is a quiet residential area, perfect for relaxing holidays, with mainly villas, a few restaurants, bars and a supermarket for the daily requirements. To complement your holiday requirements, the nearby Albufeira offers everything expected from a cosmopolitan resort.

If you are looking for nightlife entertainment, you should head towards the “Strip” located near Oura beach, considered by many the hub of Albufeira’s nightlife scene, offering plenty of entertainment, with many bars, restaurants, and trendy nightclubs. Albufeira’s old town with its pretty cobbled streets lined with restaurants, bars, cafés and shops, is also an excellent choice.

Within a 5-10 minutes drive from Castelo beach you will find a wonderful selection of other beaches, from the impressive golden sands at Galé to the intimate little coves, rock pools and gentle sands at Coelha and São Rafael.

A few kilometres to the north you find the charming village of Guia, home of the popular spicy piri-piri chicken restaurants, and the Algarve Shopping, a modern shopping centre with an excellent range of shops, cafés and restaurants. You can also enjoy the dolphins, seals or sea lions shows at the nearby Zoomarine ocean park.

For golf lovers, Salgados is the nearest golf course, but within a 20-30 minutes drive, you will find some of the best golf courses in Europe, located in Vilamoura to the east, and in Alcantarilha to the west.
